I wrote my own open letter today (before I saw yours), and it's very much along the same lines.

Just once in my life, I would like someone trying to educate other people about autism to actually ask me how I see it. Just once.

Blessings,
Rachel
www.journeyswithautism.comAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6480795548784608622.post-47316626136488603352011-04-15T06:35:42.786-07:002011-04-15T06:35:42.786-07:00It's hard trying to get anything done with ste...It's hard trying to get anything done with stereotypes like that being thrown around. People barely see us as other people and how in the world is the world going to be a better place for us one day when we can't even be treated like people, even by the people who say they want to help us?

The educational properties of the documentary are dubious at best. We were excluded again so that the parents, teachers, and doctors can tell everyone what they think of us, and it's going to be fear, pity, anger, and ableism all over again until people start hearing our voices.Kathryn Bjornstad-Kellyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09757451092927118197noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6480795548784608622.post-84221875543440099252011-04-13T20:10:24.858-07:002011-04-13T20:10:24.858-07:00Another excellent post!

I have fought all my life to show that I have a heart full of empathy and love, I just don't express it the way the powers that be have deemed "acceptable".
Every once in a while, I like to think we've come a long way since I was a kid in talking about autism and how to treat autistic people. Then stuff like this pushes me down and says, "Hah! Just kidding! You're still inhuman in the eyes of many."Leah Janehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16798094383285526940noreply@blogger.com
